She was born and grew up in the middle-class family in the capital city of Iran. Her brother was a political prisoner of the Shah’s regime and presently is a member of the Mujahedin-e Khalq. One of her sisters was murdered by the Shah’s police in 1975, while another sister was arrested in 1982 by Iran’s clerical regime. She was brutally tortured and hanged at the end.
Maryam Rajavi joined the Mujaheddin-e Khalq at the beginning of her political career. Later, she tried to take a seat in Parliament but without success. The Regime sabotaged the election and stole the opposition votes.
In 1993, Maryam Rajavi was elected by the National Council of Resistance of Iran as the President-elect for the period of the battle against dictatorship. From that position, she performed an outstanding political, ideological, social and cultural challenge to the ruling political figures in her country.
Under the presidency of Maryam Rajavi, Iranian women have taken important positions in the resistance movement. More than a half of the Nacional Council of Resistance of Iran members are women currently, and it is a great success for the country with the brutal Islamic regime.
Besides, she created numerous activities for the improvement of the human rights in her country, including a large number of speeches. In 1994, Maryam Rajavi warned about the Islamic fundamentalism and religious tyranny in Iran that may spread all over the world from Teheran.
Maryam Rajavi is seen as one of the pioneer opposition politicians who have battled against the tyranny and repression. She has been supported by many prominent people from the West, including the United States government secretaries and officials, congressmen, senators and other prominent figures.
In 2016, Maryam Rajavi released an announcement demanding justice for victims of the massacre in her country in 1988. She also demands prosecution for all organizers and executors of the morbid act. The support for the announcement quickly grew in Iran and all over the world, and that became the major political question in the country after 28 years. Maryan Rajavi succeeded to break the thirty years long silence, and it seems the criminals will get deserved punishment at the end.
